The Journal of Global Smallholder Studies (JGSS) is committed to providing open access to all its published content, ensuring that a worldwide audience can freely access research without subscription fees. This is enabled through the financial support of Article Publishing Charges (APCs).
APCs are applied only to manuscripts accepted for publication following a rigorous peer-review process. These charges cover essential publishing costs, including copyediting, typesetting, online hosting, content preservation, and long-term archiving. Note that there are no submission fees, and authors of rejected manuscripts incur no charges.
To encourage contributions and reduce financial barriers for authors, the Global Smallholder Studies Academy will fully sponsor APCs for all articles submitted by 31st December 2027.

The Journal of Global Smallholder Studies (JGSS) is thrilled to invite submissions for its first issue, to be published in 2025. We are seeking original research and review articles that explore various aspects of smallholder activities worldwide. This inaugural issue presents a unique chance for scholars and field experts to contribute to a novel forum that promotes the dissemination of knowledge and stimulates dialogue on smallholder-related topics.
